Long-Time SRS Member Retires
Stowe Rescue Squad board member Nick Nunez stepped down from his board position this past winter after nearly 20 years of service to Stowe EMS and SRS Inc.
Nick started volunteering for Stowe Rescue Squad back in 2005. While playing in the local hockey league, he was approached by a friend, Steve Chambers, who happened to work on the ambulance. Steve explained how there was a shortage of responders in town and encouraged Nick to volunteer as an ambulance driver.
Nick went on to not only drive the ambulance, but also obtain his EMT certification and volunteer thousands of hours as a care provider. He served on the board as well, helping with fundraising events, blood drives, and AED adoption throughout the town and much more.
When asked about his decision to step away from the SRS board, Nick’s response echoed his generous spirit. He wants to make room for the next generation of volunteers.
Although Nick will no longer be actively involved with Stowe EMS, his commitment to service remains unwavering. He continues to coach youth lacrosse and volunteers for Meals on Wheels and the disaster-response nonprofit, Team Rubicon.
When asked what he was most proud of when reflecting on his service, Nick says: “It’s having done it for 16 years with a bunch of great people; helping people who are having a bad day.”
